Tips to build your Mental Resilience

What is Mental Resilience?

It is your ability to cope with tough times by applying your inner strength and engaging support networks.

Interestingly, it is not something that you either have or you don’t have. You can think of it like a muscle, and just like how you would train your physical muscles in the gym, you can train so that you build your mental resilience.

How can you build Mental Resilience? Here are a few of our tips:

Cultivating a positive mindset
Maintaining a positive outlook can help you bounce back from adversity. Try to reframe negative situations and look for opportunities for growth and learning.

Develop a strong support system
Having people in your life that you can turn to for support is key to building mental resilience. Make an effort to nurture your relationships with friends and family.

Practice self-care
Make sure you’re eating well, getting enough sleep, engaging in regular physical activity and doing the things that fill your cup. Taking time for yourself to do things you enjoy is an important part of looking after yourself.

Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness can help you stay present in the moment and reduce stress and anxiety. Try practicing meditation or deep breathing exercises to help you stay calm centred during challenging times.

While resilience doesn’t happen overnight, these tools can help build your mental toughness. Practicing these steps will help you sit through discomfort and difficult emotions.
